"Urban soundtracks" was a series produced for the Galaxy radio station network based in the UK. It ran from 1999-2002.
They used to be broadcast at 7pm on a Sunday evening.
I think it was origionally a series of 12 programmes featuring mostly abridged(shortened) versions of mostly modern stories, such as Filth, The Sopranos(not the gansters), High Fidelity, Powder, Paper etc...and was extended to more stories, usually classics that were out of copyright.
What's good about it is that many of the stories are read by british celebrities and personalities such as Kylie Minouge, Tom Baker, Billy Bragg, Keith Allen, Stephen Birkoff, Brian Blessed, Niel Tennant etc..
Sunday at 6.55pm usually consisted of 2 black tapes and a joint ;-)
i do like the compilation cd's Oakey does, but I think urban soundtracks were some of the best stuff Oakey has done, i'm a big fan of the series.

JAR.
Maybe a reprise to the series is needed - I would love to see Paul put his own soundtrack to some recent novels or more of the classics :-)
Me too. I was listening to Oakie's track "Mortal"last night and sat thinking (and having a puff on a cigar) how talented this man is.
I have all the Urban Soundtracks - I bought them on eBay before there were so many available for download. I would love to hear Oakies own music to stories. If you're reading Oakie - and if you have time - PLEASE?

I have all of them on tape, but to get digital copies you can buy them, unofficially, from djsets.co.uk
OR
as they are not officially commercially available, you should Google
"paul oakenfold urban soundtracks torrent"
and persue from there.
Personally i think the best one are "Jack the Ripper" and "The Count of Monte Cristo"
